Hostel residents are cooking up a storm!

The young people at our hostel will be hosting a barbecue this summer with the help of one of our corporate supporters, Interserve.

Back in May, the residents invited a small amount of supporters to a coffee morning at the hostel, where they sold homemade cakes and served tea and coffee to their guests. Organised by a support worker at the hostel, Dawn Charlesworth, not only did this event raise some funds for the charity but it allowed the supporters to see ‘behind the scenes’ and get a better idea of how Roundabout is helping young people at the hostel.

Now, some of these young people want to thank more supporters of the charity by inviting them to a barbecue on Wednesday 17th August, supported by a leading training provider, Interserve.

The Sheffield branch of Interserve Learning and Employment chose to support our charity back in April. As a leading training and employment provider, Interserve is dedicated to help schemes which have a positive impact on wider communities and local economies. Their employees in Sheffield are keen to get involved and help Roundabout, so were eager to get involved with this event.

The organisation’s Hospitality trainers, most of whom have professional catering experience, will be volunteering at the event, working with the young people at the hostel to prepare and cook the food.

“We’re very grateful to Interserve for their help with this event,” said Dawn Charlesworth, the main organiser of the coffee morning and barbecue.

“Not only is it great that we will have professionals providing the catering, but our young people will have a chance to learn some new cooking skills!”

Interserve Learning  and Employment provides first class skills, education and employment services to help break down barriers to prosperity. They provide tailored support to teenagers and adults from all walks of life that have been prevented from starting and staying on their journey into work.

“It’s really important to us that we give something back and support local causes by getting involved in community projects, such as this barbecue” said Interserve’s Careers Development Officer, Thomas Moore.

“The work that Roundabout does is something we’re very keen to support in any way we can. We’re looking forward to working with the young people to make this event a success!”
