HSBC help a young person keep their tenancy

Employees from HSBC in Manchester and Sheffield recently teamed together to prevent a young person we help in Sheffield from losing their tenancy.

Supporting Tenants is one of our charity’s services which works with young people who are living in their own home. The service works across the whole of Sheffield and provides a level of support necessary for young people to maintain their own tenancies and empower them to continue this once support has been withdrawn.

This young person was at risk of eviction from her rented property. As part of her tenancy agreement, the garden needed to be cleared of rubble and overgrown shrubbery.  The young person had managed to clear half of the garden herself to make it a nice area for her children to play, but the other half was in an unmanageable condition for the tenant to sort. She could not afford a gardener and her family were unable to help.

She was about to be taken to court for eviction when Roundabout got involved. We appealed to different organisations  and HSBC were keen to help.

“Our organisation believes it is important to support projects within the community and to give something back to those in need”, explained Jonathan Berry, a Senior Auditor from the Sheffield team at HSBC.

“When Roundabout approached us to say they needed help we were keen to get involved.”

The team worked hard to fill rubble sacks and clear the garden of overgrown plants. Now, the young person feels able to maintain the garden appropriately, which is the condition of keeping the tenancy.

Thanks to the staff from HSBC for clearing the garden, a young family has been prevented from becoming homeless.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to the team from HSBC,” explains Tracey Jackson, Roundabout’s Deputy CEO.

“Without their help, our young person and her two children would have been made homeless. Now the garden is in a manageable condition, the young mum is able to remain in her property and build a home for herself and her children.”
