Local legend, Shaun Doane, will be swapping his bed for a sleeping bag when he sleeps on the floor of a cold warehouse on Friday 24 November to raise money for vulnerable young people in Sheffield.
We’re excited to announce that the Everly Pregnant Brothers frontman will be raising funds and awareness for Roundabout at our annual Sleep Out event!
This year, the Sleep Out will be held at 92 Burton Rd, home of the famous Peddler Night Market. For one night, we’re encouraging supporters to take on the challenge and swap their warm beds for a sleeping bag and a hard floor inside the warehouse.
“The Sleep Out is our flagship event and we’re really excited to be at a brand new venue this year at 92 Burton Rd, which many people will recognise as the place where Peddler is held,” explains Ben Keegan, Roundabout’s Chief Executive.
“This year it’s our fortieth birthday, so we’re keen to make it our biggest event yet and are delighted that Shaun is going to be taking part for the second time!
“All funds raised will enable us to continue to help vulnerable young people in Sheffield – we aim to not only provide shelter for the young people we support, but also encourage them to build their life skills and their independence.
“Where possible, we work with families to prevent the young person from feeling the need to leave home in the first place. Ultimately, we want to end youth homelessness in our city.”
The event starts at 8pm on Friday 24th November and will end at 7am the next morning. The first half of the evening will feature games, food and entertainment, including a sing-a-long round a fire with Fagan’s favourite, Chris Coates. Then from midnight, the really tough challenge begins as Shaun and all the other participants climb into their sleeping bags.
Shaun says, “Once again, I’ve signed up to do the Sleep Out to raise money and awareness for Roundabout, and the great work they do to either help young homeless people back into a safe home, or keep them from becoming homeless in the first place.
“Why not come and join me and all the other lovely supporters – we can all ‘rough it’ for Roundabout together!”
Places are filling fast! To join Shaun and take part, participants need to register through Eventbrite. Registration is £15 per person and teams of four or more receive a discount of 10%!
