Students award £500 to Roundabout

The student-run appeal ‘Give As You Rent’ has awarded £500 to our charity!

The ‘Give As You Rent’ Appeal is run by Sheffield RAG (Raise And Give) in partnership with Residence Life, to support local organisations working with the homeless and vulnerable people in Sheffield.

To raise funds for the project, students living in University accommodation can choose to donate £2 per term when paying their rent.

“The Give As You Rent scheme awards funds to charities and projects which will allow them to continue to provide vital support to those in need”, explained George Hampson, Sheffield RAG’s Charity Officer.

“£2 a term may not sound like a huge amount but with so many students happy to donate, we raised an amazing £23,000 this year meaning many charities can benefit.”

A panel of students living in the residences decide what projects and charities to support. Since they began 23 years ago, they have donated over £395,043 to various charities in Sheffield to help them tackle the prevalent issue of homelessness.

“Homelessness is a serious problem in Sheffield,” said Ruth Gage, our Fundraising and Communications Manager.

“We work tirelessly to help those in need and prevent homelessness from occurring through our prevention services, where possible. We’re so pleased to have RAG’s support again this year through this vital appeal so we can continue to help young people in Sheffield.”
