Winter Hockey Tournament raising money for Roundabout

A number of ball hockey players from official South Yorkshire teams are coming together to play in a tournament, aiming to raise money for local charities.

Players from teams around the UK will come together to form four teams, with each team raising money for a different local charity. One of the teams will be forming ‘Team Santa’ for the tournament, raising money and awareness for Roundabout!

Captain of Team Santa and Shaw Millionaires player, Gareth Dutton, explains “It’s always nice to help out those who are less fortunate.

“I couldn’t think of a better way to raise money than playing a sport that means a lot to both myself and many others that will be taking part.

“We’re hoping we get a lot of support, so we can raise some vital funds to help vulnerable young people in Sheffield.”

The sporting event will take place at the Simply Skate Arena in Rotherham, on Saturday 10th December from 3pm until 7pm.

Team Santa will be competing against Team Elves, Team Snowmen and Team Reindeer at the event, all formed of players from Sheffield Knights, Shaw Millionaires and Sheffield Lancers to raise money for their chosen charity.

Each team will be collecting money on the day through donations and by selling raffle tickets. Prior to the event, supporters are encouraged to donate via Just Giving.

“We’re very grateful to have been chosen as one of the charities to benefit from this event alongside some other fantastic local charities,” explains Ruth Gage, our Fundraising and Communications Manager.

“This time of year can be particularly difficult for young people who find themselves homeless and needing our support so events like this are incredibly important in raising of awareness of our cause.”
