Sheffield-based You-Are-The-Ref.com, which is the world’s leading independent authority and education platform for match officials, are behind the creation of the Youdan Trophy competition which celebrates football’s first ever tournament; the Football Challenge Cup presented by Thomas Youdan Esq. which was played only once in 1867 at Bramall Lane.
To celebrate the event, the organisation will be holding a sporting dinner on Thursday 14 July at the Holiday Inn, Sheffield.
Comedian Jed Stone will MC the event, which hopes to raise thousands for two Sheffield-based charities, one of which is Roundabout.
“Our sporting dinner proved hugely popular last year,” says Keith Hackett, the director of You-Are-The-Ref.com who organised the tournament.
“We’re expecting tables to be in big demand once again.”
The Youdan Trophy international tournament has quadrupled in size from its 2015 debut and over 800 players will compete in the competition, taking place in Sheffield from August 1st-5th.
