The last time Wilf Scolding was on stage at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre he was playing a deranged dentist in cult musical favourite hit Little Shop of Horrors.

Now he’s back, with a calmer and definitely more controlled role as the presenter and host of the 2026 A Night at the Musicals, the annual celebration of musical theatre organised by South Yorkshire youth homelessness charity Roundabout.

Will already has experience of the event – last year he was one of the West End professionals in the lineup when the show made a one-off transfer to the neighbouring Lyceum.

Now the show is back at the Crucible on Monday 18 May, and this year’s lineup of singers and dancers – representing the best of South Yorkshire community theatre talent – will be joined by Hollyoaks star Carley Stenson and actor, performer, writer and West End regular Sam Buttery, who also featured in TV talent hit The Voice and Netflix series Kaos.

And with a selection of songs covering major hits like Les Miserables, there’s Something About Jamie and Wicked, A Night at the Musicals promises to be an evening of theatre magic.

Wilf is probably best known for Radio 4’s long-running farming saga The Archers – he’s been with the show since 2017, playing Christopher Carter, the Ambridge farrier.

On television he had a pivotal though brief role as Rhaegar Targaryen in international hit Game of Thrones.

He also starred in Netflix series The One and more recently in Star Wars spinoff Andor, while his film credits include Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

And in the spirit of A Night at the Musicals, in addition to that previous Crucible Christmas show appearance in Little Shop of Horrors, he also has a major West End hit on his CV, the multi award-winning revival of the classic Cabaret.

“We are delighted to be able to welcome Wilf as our host for a show that really does showcase the fantastic musical theatre talent we have here in South Yorkshire,” said Roundabout Events Fundraising Manager Mhairi Jamieson.

“A Night at the Musicals delivers top hits from the West End, Broadway and film in one incredible concert, making the most of all those great singers and dancers.

“Last year’s show was a complete sell-out so although May might seem a long way off right now, we do advise you to book early, with tickets available at prices ranging from £26 to £33.
