Christmas Tree Recycling

Recycle a Tree, Build a Brighter Future

Roundabout supports over 500 young people every day who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

This Christmas, you can help us make a difference by taking part in our Christmas tree recycling campaign.

For a suggested donation of £15 per tree, our amazing team will collect your Christmas tree and take it away to be recycled. It’s a simple way to support young people facing homelessness across South Yorkshire while doing your bit for the environment.

Before collection, please remember to:

  • Remove all decorations, lights and tinsel.
  • Take the tree out of its pot, if it has one.
  • Remove the tree stand or base, as we cannot remove or recycle

Register before 2nd January 2027 for a collection.

More information about Christmas Tree collections can be found in our FAQ section

What you need to know about this year’s collection

Q: What is the Roundabout Christmas Tree Recycling Campaign?

Our Christmas tree collection is a simple, eco-friendly way to recycle your real Christmas tree while supporting local youth homelessness charity. You register your tree online, leave it outside by 8am on your collection day, and our amazing volunteers collect and recycle it for you, all in return for a kind donation to Roundabout.

Q: Which areas do you collect Christmas trees from?

We collect Christmas trees across Sheffield and Rotherham, covering the following postcode districts: S20, S25, S26, S60, S61, S62, S63, S64, S65, S66, S73, S80 and S81.

This includes areas such as Wickersley, Bramley, Whiston, Brinsworth, Kimberworth, Rawmarsh, Maltby, Dinnington, Aston, Kiveton, Laughton, Thurcroft, Catcliffe, Herringthorpe, Swinton, Wath, Mexborough, Worksop, Carlton-in-Lindrick and more.

Q: When is the 2026 Christmas tree collection?

Volunteers will be collecting Christmas trees Wednesday 6th January – Friday 8th January 2027.

Q: When does registration close?

Registration for Christmas tree collection closes on Saturday 2nd January 11:59pm.

Q: How do I register my tree for collection?

Simply fill in the form on our website.

Q: Is there a cost for the Christmas tree collection?

We don’t charge a fee, but we kindly ask for a voluntary donation. Every penny helps us to ensure no young person experiences homelessness is Sheffield and Rotherham, and supports event costs like van hire, fuel and equipment.

Q: Do I need to be home when you collect my Christmas tree?

No, you don’t need to be in. Just make sure your tree is outside and clearly visible.

Q: Where should I leave my Christmas tree?

Place your tree:

  • Outside your property
  • Somewhere clear and easy to see
  • Not behind locked gates
  • Not blocking pavements or driveways

Volunteers cannot enter homes, rear gardens, or gated driveways.

Q: How should I prepare my Christmas tree?

Please:

  • Remove all decorations, lights and tinsel
  • Remove the base or pot (we can’t recycle these)
  • Ensure it’s under 8ft — or cut it down to size
  • Leave it out by 8am on collection days

Q: When will my tree be collected?

Your tree will be collected sometime between 6th-9th January 2027.

Because volunteers collect hundreds of trees on planned routes, we can’t give a specific day or time.

Q: What if my Christmas tree hasn’t been collected?

First, check your registration details and the date range.

If it’s still within the collection window, it may just be that volunteers haven’t reached your route yet.

If your tree has been missed after the final day, contact us using the details in your confirmation email.

Q: What happens in bad weather?

If we experience dangerous weather conditions, collections may need to be postponed. If this happens, you’ll receive an email with updated dates.

Q: What happens to my Christmas tree after collection?

All collected Christmas trees are chipped and reused locally, for example, on sports fields, in parks, or as mulch for community spaces. It’s a greener way to farewell your tree.

Q: Where does my donation go?

Donations are given directly to Roundabout, your local youth homelessness charity.

Q: Can I volunteer for the Christmas tree collection?

Yes! We’d love your help.

Whether you have a van, can join a collection team, or want to help behind the scenes, please contact us via email fundraising@roundaboutltd.org.
